Divergent by Veronica Roth

For fans of The Hunger Games this book is amazing all on its own. In Divergent we have Beatrice- a girl who seems to not quite fit in with her family or within her community and on testing day this would prove to be true.

Divergent-a dystopian novel- is set in, what I believe to be a futuristic, Chicago. Society has been divided into five different factions (Abnegation-Selfless, Dauntless- brave, Candor-honest, Amity-peaceful, and the Erudite-intelligent). A person belonging to a particular faction is thought to have possessed the specific trait associated with that faction.

In the beginning of the book we see Beatrice, who later nicknames herself Tris, as having conflicting emotions as to whether or not she is selfless enough to belong to the Abnegation faction she was born into. When a child turns 16 in this society they are to undergo a simulation test that determines which faction they mostly align with followed by a Choosing Ceremony into the faction of their choice. However, Tris’s test does not answer the questions she has, but only confuses her more about who she is. As it turns out her test only complicates things when she does not receive a typical result. Now she must find out what it means to be her.

Divergent by Veronica Roth is an amazing book! It is suspenseful, action-packed, and mysterious all the way through! There is even a little romance for those of us who like a touch of romance without it overpowering the book! I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good, action-packed dystopian novel!
